New to Ad-Aware. Read the "Get Started" & performed 1st scan. Result showed 545 objects recognized. Question 1...in specific easy to understand words, what was recognized?

Question 2...how do I recognize what to delete or what to exclude fm delete?

When results indicate for example "10 objects removed? Select either OK or Cancel. What does this specifically mean?

it means it located 545 items in your pc that are active and known spy ware programs. This includes programs installed uknowingly and cookies.

Pretty much anything ad-aware picks up is safe to remove though some programs that people install have spyware built in and removing that spyware item my actually stop the program from running. Typically these are not critical programs, rather shareware programs or things like comet cursor

Not sure about the last one.

Ah ok the last part of your question relates to once you have selected which known spyware to remove and as Kodo said this can also be data tracting cookies, that message is desplayed as a last option to cancel deleting anything ( Click OK to cancel and Cancel to return to the Scanning Results to deselect any you have picked )

I use like most members here Ad Aware and it is very effective in removing known spyware programs ( some you can catch just by accessing a website )

To prevent reinfection by accessing a web site you can use a similar spyware scanner Spybot Search & Destroy and use the immunise option. In addition you could use SpywareBlaster

There are others but I use AdAware, Spybot and SpywareBlaster - never had any real problems

Thankyou for your answers. I know as I get into ADWARE that I'll have more. Maxwell...I'll look into getting the SPYBOOT SEARCH & DESTROY & the SPYWARE BLASTER. Also...what is a typical line item in the scan that shows me that it's a TRACKING COOKIE? Can you cut & paste an example for me to see?

Here you go on a typical Tracking Cookie ( only 2 on my system at present )

If you right click on the object(s) shown in the results page another menu appears that allows you to view further details of the item plus a host of other things.
