Ad-aware problem

I wasnt quite sure whether to ask this here or in software but im sure it will be moved if necessary. when i go to start ad aware i get the error " The procedure entry point VarNot could not be located in the dynamic link library oleaut32.dll ".

i ran system file checker and replaced a bad file it found but it still didnt fix it. i also downloaded the dll file and tried to replace it but windows wouldnt let me do so in normal or safe mode.

Im on Win98 SE.
