    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

This could be due to some malware that is present or it may be a non-malware issue. The best way for us to determine that is for you to please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Why didn't you allow CounterSpy to fix ALL of what it found. You ignore Morpheus which is a source of malware.

Also why didn't you run the online scan in step 6? I would assume if you can get CounterSpy to run that you should also be able to run long enough to run the online scanners. But let's fix a few things first and then you should run the online scans.

Please downloadThe Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Double click on Avenger.zip to open the file and extract avenger.exe to your Desktop
    • Copy the below quoted text (which is a script for Avenger) into your clipboard by highlighting it and pressing
      CTRL+C
    • Now, run The Avenger program by double clicking its icon on your Desktop.
    • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
    • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
    • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
    • Click Done
    • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
    • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer. (When the script being executed contains "Drivers to Unload",
The Avenger will actually reboot your system two times.)
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the reboot, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log
file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped
them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
Please attach the c:\avenger.txt file to your next message.

Now make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.

    C:\DOCUME~1\VECTRA~1\MYDOCU~1\DOBE~1\mshta.exe
    C:\WINNT\?ppPatch\w?auclt.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {F25E815C-6890-4112-ECAF-63848A931CE0} - C:\WINNT\system32\hmxmhnog.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AB256D7B-87EE-F930-CD4E-8DBAA9121DE0} - C:\WINNT\System32\qlplov.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F25E815C-6890-4112-ECAF-63848A931CE0} - C:\WINNT\system32\hmxmhnog.dll
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Asom] "C:\DOCUME~1\VECTRA~1\MYDOCU~1\DOBE~1\mshta.exe" -vt yazr
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Slzo] C:\WINNT\?ppPatch\w?auclt.exe
    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htmab

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:

    C:\Documents and Settings\vectra ve\My Documents\DOBE~1\mshta.exe
    C:\WINNT\?ppPatch\w?auclt.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Things look a lot better. Just see if you can located the below. The filename has been corrupted by the malware so this is an abbreviation of the full name. You will have to determine the real file name.

    c:\winnt\pppatc~1\wauclt~1.exe

    How is everything working?

well the original problem seems to be fixe, adaware no longer shuts p.c. down.
however, the p.c will randomly shutdown and restart periodically.

now i am off to try to find that file

You shutdown problems may not be malware. It could be hardware related. But let's check again for newfiles. Please download the latest version of ShowNew from the link below and attach a new log:

    Using ShowNew

No problems there either. You should discuss your problem with shutdows in the hardware forum. You may have overheating problems or some other hardware issue with your mother board or power supply.

You do have some other work to do here though. You need to install the current versions of Sun Java and Firefox and then uninstall the old versions you have. This is all covered in your next steps given below:

It is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
