    is it best to use ad-aware with a basic full system scan or customizing it like i have seen on a couple of other sites?
    i'd post the link but, for some reason, when i did in the past, it got ***'ed out.

    It depends on what you are trying to look for and how much time you want to spend scanning. The options are there to be used for a variety of different scanning purposes. Otherwise there would be no need to have them selectable. The default scanning options are sufficient in most cases but if there are still problems afterwards, the more intense scanning methods can be chose. Similar concepts can be used with other programs too.
