Before upgrading to WinXP I told my wife to backup her files. Well - she used the Adaptec Easy CD creator 4.02a Direct CD v 3.01a instead of just making a data CD. She now has an Adaptec Direct CD that will not be read in XP.

Anyone know how I can get those files via WinXp without a Win98 reinstall? I am hoping I do not have to find a WIn98 computer and swap my CDRW Drive in and install Direct CD to copy the files.

    Thanks for any info.

As far as I know Direct CD is still not supported under Win XP. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I have version 5.3 and it doesn't work so unless 6.0 fixed it you will be out of luck.

DirectCD and InCD are written in UDF format, which WInXP doesn't have native support for. I know Adaptec does have a free UDF reader available, but I've heard horror stories about it disabling CD drives in XP. Apparantly, WinXP's little dodad for burning CDs also uses UDF format. I can't understand why it doesn't work right, though. Probably MS ignoring worldwide standards again.

Direct CD 6 ( which has had its name changed to Drag to Disk ) is fully compatible with XP also version 5 was upto a point ( it works on some PC and not on others ) BUT you do have to download the latest patches..... I used EZCD 5 & Direct CD with the 5.3.1 update with no problems.

BUT Im afraid version 4 will have problems, you could as da chicken said try the UDF reader.

which drive BTW are you putting the CDRW disks into if the CDRW drive then try it in a DVD as some can read multisession disks and CDRWs I know under XP my DVD will read CDRWs with no problems.
