Help Help AdAware hangs when it gets to NETMEETING. Have done all that is on your READ ME page. At least think i have done it all. This is sisters computer and it is a mess. Apparently it has a trojan per PANDA. Will send all of the scan reports. Just let me know which else you need. thanks in advance for your assistance.....Starjohn01
P.S. Also updating to SP2 fails. I get the error code 0x80070017

HI and Welcome to the forum :)

Do please follow the guide below as we will need all the logs attached to sucessfully help you clear your PC from malware, you do have some in Internet Temporary Folder in which the first steps in cleaning up your PC would have removed using CCLeaner. There will be some picked up that are resident in your System Restore files, BUT leave those for now until you are free of malware as they are dormant.

Error Code 0x80070017 generally signifies a data error.. so maybe worth also running chkdsk /r

Even if one of the scans finds nothing attach it anyway.

Our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Halo, Here are the other three scans you need. I sure op this helps you to help me. I also did a Trend micro's Spyware cleaned out HOTBAR and FUNWEB Prods and the second can was clean. And my Yahoo Virus Scan stopped at windows\system32\dllcache\eventcls.dll. And like I said earlier my AdAware FullScanstops at Net meeting, but the Quick Scan stops at Browser Cache. Microsoft's Malicious Software removal tool showed CLEAN. Again, thanks for the help.....starjohn01

You problems are not due to malware. Typically problems like this are due to other physical problems on your system. Like file system corruption, registry corruption, program corruption, etc. I recommend trying the Software Forum and also playing with various options in Ad-Aware SE (like ignore neglible risks entries and also low risk threats)

You do neeed to do the below (not malware but to help avoid future malware)!

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

You can also use HJT to fix the below left over from Microsoft Money:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Thank you so much for your help. I had done a lot of cleaning with the anti spyware programs before I asked for help. Got lots of help just from reading your posts and getting all downloads from ya'll for a year before joining to ask for help with sisters machine. She had so much crap on there. I am impressed :major with this site. I finally found the help needed for the software problem---I needed to reload Windows Installer, from Microsoft. Thanks again from a geekwannabe LOL -----starjohn01
P.S. Will continue to lurk here for more help and suggestions from ya'll.
