AdAware problem

    Hello,

Something I loaded on my computer is preventing my computer from remembering user id's and passwords on some message boards and email sites (yahoomail, junomail). Even when I click "save" for a login/password, my computer now does not retain the info. (Happily, *this* msg board did remember me.)

There are two possible culprits. One is the latest version of AdAware (AdAware 2007) which I was forced to download Monday when the earlier version (AdAware SE) stopped working. Is it possible that the new version is preset to a high standard of security that has stopped my computer from remembering user id's and passwords, and if so, does anyone know how to change this setting?

The other possibility is Google Earth which I downloaded yesterday, but it's hard to imagine that this would cause a problem with passwords.

Finally, if it's still possible to download the earlier version of AdAware (AdAware SE), can someone post a link for this. I was prefectly happy with AdAware SE, but it stopped downloading updates for me a week ago, so I was forced to uninstall it. On the Lavasoft site, the only free download I could find was AdAware 2007.

    Thanks in advance.

What browser are you using? If Firefox...then under tools / options / security there is a setting to remember passwords with exceptions to the rule ...have you checked that?

There is no point in finding the old version of Ad-awareSE as your definitions will be way out of date and therefore useless.

I'm using IE7. Any advice welcome!

In Tools | Internet Options, autocomplete is still checked.

If anyone has AdAware 2007, is there a place to ask it to retain my user id and password on sites where I login and elect to have the password retained?

    Thanks.

I don't use IE7 so it might behoove you to ask in the software section. You should give as much info as possible -- such as other programs you may have installed that could stop the saving of passwords (Spybot / ZoneAlarm, etc.)

Things have stabilized. I downloaded an AdAware 2007 update, and the only email program affected was yahoomail. Message boards retained my password.

    Thanks.

I was wrong. AdAware2007 continues to delete my username and password from sites where I want them to be remembered. This time it even removed me from this site.

I tried clicking on "Ignore" when selecting the "objects" that reflect the sites where I want to be remembered. AdAware is supposed to make sure these are not detected in future scans and leave them alone. But it does detect and delete them in subsequent scans. Sigh.

Because of this, I say to people who are wondering if they should upgrade: beware and avoid upgrading to AdAware2007 unless you are happy having to login every time you revisit websites.

I haven;t come across this problem ...can I assume that if you uninstall it the problem goes away?

    Yes, it does.
