Add or Remove Programs shows two versions of Firefox

Win XP Pro SP2. Both Firefox 2.0.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.0.6 are there. Can I remove 2.0.0.5 without stopping Firefox from working?

 

I don't see why not you only need the most up to date version.

just in case set a restore point then uninstall 2.0.0.5 and try to load FF if it does not work use restore to go back.:wave

 

I would uninstall both and then reinstall 2.0.0.6. A good guide to Firefox can be found here:

When this happens, it's usually just a leftover entry in the add/remove list. It's a common bug; check in Program Files to see if there are really two installs of Firefox there. If there aren't, you can just remove the extra entry using CCleaner, Add/Remove Program Cleaner, or by editing the registry.

 

Thanks for all replies. Based on what I've experienced, I agree I with both the suggestion of Bugballou and greenknight32; I believe either approach would have worked. And, I believe removing the Firefox 2.0.0.5 item the Add or Remove Programs list via registry editing would have been the quickest way to get rid of invalid item.

Since I didn't quite do things in proper sequence, I had to spend some extra time resolving the problem. I posted the same question over in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=3052112#3052112 I had registered on that forum a long time ago and had never used it; decided to go ahead and use it.

Bottom line: I ended up completely removing Firefox and then reinstalling version 2.0.0.6 and it's working fine now.
