well i had a problem installing pc-cillin 2003 so i had to manually uninstall it using the guide from their website. I deleted all the indicated files from the registry. But I still see Pc-cillin in my add/remove window. Although now there is no button to click on. Is there a way to get rid of this ro something im missing. Oh and i have windows xp. home edition.

    thanks

Have you rebooted since you deleted that Uninstall reg key for PC-Cillin? I can't believe it's still in the Add-Remove list if you deleted the entry from the registry that PUTS it there.

Do you have jv16 PowerTools or RegCleaner? Both of those present you with a list of all entries in Add-Remove, whether they're uninstallable (with a button) or not, and you can remove any entry from Add-Remove permanently with those programs.

I did reboot and im also confused why it's doing this. i do not have those programs but have ran ad-aware, adn spybot but ill give those a try.

i used both programs and does not show up on any of the 2. Ah well who knows what is going on. I guess as long as it doesn't do anything harmful im ok with it. But if anybody has any other suggestions please feel free.

    Okay, one last little suggestion:

OPen Add-Remove and copy down the EXACT words (spelling and all) of the PC-Cillin entry on that page EXACTLY.

Now open the registry editor, and run a Search for those exact words in exactly the same order with exactly the same spelling. Back up and then kill anything you find.

Add-Remove is governed exclusively by the registry. No program actually removes anything from or adds anything to Add-Remove directly. The only way to change the list is through the registry. Programs that delete Add-Remove entries delete registry keys, and programs that add Add-Remove entires add registry keys.

If it's gone from the reg, I don't think it's even POSSIBLE for it to be in the Add-Remove list.

    PS ...

    weezer,

Don't forget to use F3 after you find and kill any copy of the wording of Add-Remove. F3 will search for the next occurrence of what you're searching for.

Just adding that because I don't know how well you know your way around the reg, and a lot of folks don't know that F3 is the fast and easy way to make sure you've found everything you need to kill. Even after extensive editing, F3 will continue where the search left off.

thanks to everyone for their advice it really helped and now i feel better. I can move on to bigger and better things.

    thanks
