Adding documents to Excel Spreadsheet

I have been tasked with combining a number of .pdf and Word documents into Excel spreadsheets. Ultimately, they want to be able to view the entire document (.pdf or .doc) as if was opened with the original program (i.e.: Acrobat or Word) without having to actually open the other program. I have searched the internet and found how to add objects and pictures (.jpg, .tiff, .bmp, etc), but these only show one page and you have to either double-click to open another program or scroll through the embedded window.

One of the guys at work got me a program, "PDFill", that will convert .pdf to .jpg, this has somewhat fixed the .pdf issue, but not completely. The page sizing and page breaks are off. I am still trying to see if I can tweak these to get them to work.

Next problem is to add the Word document to the Excel spreadsheet and not have to continually re-format the file. I have about 100 Word documents with varying amounts of pages (many up to ten) and varying tab/column spacing; so trying to embed single pages will take too much time.

At work we are running MS Office 2000, I have Office 2003 at home, and have access to Office 2010, if any of these will make a difference. Preferred, is Office 2000 as that is what is currently deployed in our company.

Any assistance in how-to or what programs (prefer free, takes too long to get payment approval and have a deadline) might work, would be extremely helpful.

    brownizs, thanks for the reply.

I will have to move documents to the computer that has 2010 in order to test all this out, (then hope when I move them back it all works).

As a "very basic" Excel user, I am researching the 'macro' you linked for the .pdf files. I've never worked with, let alone create, macros. :banghead

Problem is, you create it on 2k10, it may not be backwards compatible 100%. As for the macro, just follow the directions in the link, and it should work.
