    Hello, I have recently built a computer with the following specs;

    AMD 3800+ X2
    2gigs of Corsair DDR2 800mhz memory
    Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
    430watt Thermaltake PSU 12v rail with 18amps

    Now, I'm thinking of upgrading my 7 year old video card to something new, like a 7600GT or 7900GS. The thing is, I don't really know if I should upgrade my power supply.
    The 7600GT I'm looking at is passively cooled http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125025
    so I would imagine it uses less power. If I were to but this card, would I need to upgrade my PSU?

    Are you running dvd-rw drive how many hard drives sata or ata the amount of power you have going out is the question the more stuff you have like fans hdd cdroms dvd roms video card usb devices that are powered from the board make the difference I always say having to much never hurts it always allows for future additions.

    Ah, of course.

    I forgot to mention those.

    1 SATA harddrive
    1 Optical drive
    4 120mm fans + 1 cpu fan of course

    Here's an approximate power usage from Tiger. I'd say you're near the limit but you should be fine unless you add another vid card or push your CPU. TT's are good PSU's (I have the same one) though I'd invest in anew one when you can.

    Did a quick search a 7600gt draws 36watts or 3amps,if you post what your old card is we can calculate how much extra strain your new card will place on your PC

    I agree your borderline pushing it with that power supply, especially with the low 12v amps

    GeForce FX5500 normal PCI
    Clearly a bit out of place on this system...
    My old computer died on me, and I decided to stick with the same video card, and upgrade it later.
