About a month ago, I did a system recovery on a friends' Vaio laptop. I don't recall setting up an Administrator password.
Now when he boots up, XP is asking for one. So maybe I was wrong. Either way, is there a way to bypass an administrator password? Or reset it? Thanks for any advice. I'd like to avoid another recovery.

Try leaving the password blank. Also try this in Safe Mode (F8) immediately after boot screen to make sure it is the real Administrator account.

I've seen these instructions numerous times and they apparently work. A repair install would not lose data that has been accumulated since the format. If your system recovery was a "back to factory defaults" type disc and you need the product key MagicJellyBean keyfinder can get you your installation key off the current install.
