administrator passwords

Does anyone know how to recover the administrator username and password on a windows xp platform.....tried deleting *.pwl no joy?

If you are able to log in, and have admin rights on that account, you could simply reset it.

 

Thankyou for your response , the computer belongs to a friend who setup the admin password and username, and now can't recall! I am logging in as a user account so everything is operating as normal changes to the hardware setting or installing software cause the popup of admin rights to proceed.
I feel the only way round is to reformat vis boot disk..not tried it yet!
