Hello folks, I'm running windows XP, have somehow downloaded and removed adobe (several times) with newer versions. Now when I go to see a .pdf file all I get is a lovely X in a box!

I tried the ccleaner or whatever the majorgeeks had recommened to no avail. I also am using Monzilla Firefox 2.0 if that helps.

When I try to download a new version it tells me I still have old "remnants" I have to remove first. Can't find the dern things anywhere!

    Any help is appreciated!

Can you recreate the issue and post the exact error message?

Is it the full acrobat product you're trying to install or just the reader? Which version?

On an aside, are you adverse you using an alternative? I can't praise Foxit Reader enough. No installation, no registry keys to go wrong, no .DLLs to be corrupted... just a standalone .EXE that rarely if ever breaks.

Second that, Mada_Milty. Foxit Reader is great. Bazza

Sorry about my return delay - my daughter had a MAJORGEEK car accident the day I posted this, and I have been "geeked-out" ever since. When I go to download - any version, no matter what it reads "The feature you are trying to use on this network is unavailable. Then I do what it says and click ok, to go to this other path they tell me to and they tell me I have to install package 6.0.2CE.mSI\windows\cache\adobe\reader\6.0.1\enubig\adobereader.

I am sorry guys, I do not know how to copy a screen and had to hand write this all down. You see, when I first bought this dell, it had adobe on it. Then, for some reason, something happened and I tried to update or whatever - and now I need this for my daughters college stuff ASAP - this is the program SHE knows...ya know? So, now I am screwed up as to what to do. Thank you for all your help. I have 2 original CD's with the computer. Adobe, is not a separate CD. so I have no way of knowing how to reload from the original if that is what they need....

    I am so confused......

    Thanks & Happy Holidays....

Okay! It is the adobe reader, and you are trying to install an OLD version... let's try with the latest version, no?

See this link to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Download, attempt and install, and let us know how it goes.

You might want to do a little housekeeping with CCleaner first. I'd eliminate as many registry keys and temp files as I could prior to installation for the greatest chance of success.

I would run the registry cleaner under the 'Issues' section (ensuring you create a backup) and then run the cleaner itself.
