Ok first of all im running windows xp home edition with the service pack 2,CPU type AMD duran xp 1200 mhz, system memory 375 mb, Display is trident cyber-blade 17
My problem is when i go to a web site that has a PDF file and i click on it nothing happens, then when i go to task manager it shows its not responding.
Also when i first start up the computer and try Adobe Reader from my desktop it comes up fine the first time then if i close it out and then try to open it again, then it does nothing.

I have no clue what might cause such an issue, but if I were you, I think I would uninstall the reader, then download a clean version and reinstall it. Good luck with it.

Have you tried reinstalling it, and are you using the latest version?

For the browser problem, HERE and HERE are some suggestions.

This is a common problem with Adobe Reader and Acrobat, and the suggestions don't always work.

Personally, I find it easier to save the file to desktop and open it from there rather than via your browser.

Just curious to which version of Acrobat Reader your using currently?

Version 6 has issues... early version 7's were not much better but later ones as in past 2 updates have cured slow loading for me through the browser ( also internet connection speed if your on DUN doesnt help ) but as toehead suggested clean install it again.

I take it the browser your using is IE? reason I ask this is check to see in Manage add-ons that the ActiveX components to Acrobat are enabled.

But I agree with the guys as Acrobat is notorious for slow loading through the browser which is why I always right click > download PDFs

I got very frustrated with Adobe reader as each version got heavier on resources. Found a freebie "Foxit PDF Reader" installed it and have been using it ever since. Very fast non intrusive etc etc and I am happy with it

If you want something to read .PDF files, then I'd suggest using:

    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4763

It is a small program that reads PDF files just fine.

    Uninstall Acrobat first.

Other than that, I never try to load .pdf files within the browser. A waste of network time. I tend to "right click, save as" then run them from the downloaded location.

ok it sounds like another program might be interfering with adobe.

One thing you might try is control - alt - delete

Then clike on the processes tab
then click on the little bar underneath the processes that says users.
Then one by one end the processes in the users section. Dont end explorer or ieexplorer or taskmngr. After ending one check the pdf in the browser. If you find the one that is causing the trouble goto

start -- run then type in msconfig

Goto startup and uncheck that program

try it out it might work
