    First, a hearty thank you to Major Attitude for the Sticky: READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal. I was able to follow most of the steps except for the Trend Micro and Symentec online virus scans, due to some "netscape" issue. Otherwise, everything has worked to clean up my computer nicely.

    I have also put a massive list of urls into my Hosts file supplied by http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ .

    I just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced the remarkable persistence of the ads1.searchmiracle.com pop-ups. They seem somewhat immune to the many steps suggested for blocking the majority of adware.

    The online scans need to be run using IE. However there is a new Java version for TrendMicro.

    We do not recommend putting anything into your hosts file. It makes it too easy for bad stuff to hide in the list.

    Just use programs like Spybot S&D and use the Immunize feature which puts over a thousand bad sites into your restricted zone.

    searchmiracle has been fix here many times. It is not a real tuff one to fix.

    Thanks for the input. Can you give me a link to where searchmiracle and/or ads1.searchmiracle.com have been dealt with on this site? I can't seem to find them.

    Just use the Forum Search capability and enter searchmiracle.

    If you need help with a problem, just tell me and I will help you. Sounds like you may have run all the steps in the READ ME FIRST. If you need help, do the below:


    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
