Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 6 turns off Windows Defender in Windows 8 when you install it. I tried it and decided to go back to the Free Advance SystemCare 6. The problem is Windows Defender won't turn back on.

I went to the IObit forums and it seems others are having this problem also.
I tried all the suggestions given there and they did not turn Windows Defender back on. I also looked on Windows site for solution but had no luck there either.

Anyone else have this happen? Anyone know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Hey katkat, try going to Control Panel, double click Action Center, in the Action Center settings click Turn On Now, to enable Windows Defender, then I would click Update just to be safe.

Thanks Nick but it won't turn it on. The box flickers but nothing happens when I click on "Turn on now".

The very first think I did was uninstall of the Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 6 after the trial ran out. That was when I saw I could not turn Windows Defender back on either.

I reinstalled Advance System Care 6 Free and ran it. I ran CCleaner and tried to turn defender back on. Don't know if that was necessary but did it anyway then rebooted. Nothing worked.

I looked on the Windows site to see if there was such a thing as a repair for Windows Defender Windows 8 but did not see one.

Hi my friend , you have a conflict between Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 6 and Windows Defender , you can download this

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html

to remove the Advanced SystemCare even you can go to

    C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 6 ( 32-bits )
    C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 6 ( 64-bits )

to remove that files afterwards you can try to enable Windows Defender :wave

Thanks Goldenskull. I have gone there and found I am not the only one with this problem with ASC Ultimate. I even tried the suggestions to fix this but none of them have worked so far.

Thanks falconattack. I had already used IObit Uninstall before I posted here is Rovo better? Did not say it was for Win8 on that link.

I have searched my files and don't find any for Advance SystemCare 6 Ultimate. I did reinstall Advance SystemCare 6 Free as stated above after uninstall the Ultimate version.

The problem is on my Windows 8 64 bit laptop and I need it for some work so I temporally installed Panda Anti Virus. I understood I had to uninstall Panda before trying to turn Windows Defender back on so I used the uninstall for Panda I found on their site.

I tried to turn WD back on but it would not. So I tried to reinstall Panda because I was in a time crunch needing my laptop for some work and the install failed. so I installed Avira. Today I uninstalled Avira and tried to turn Windows Defender back on and it still won't turn on.

I tried a System Restore and after that I got a box that says system 32 bit show up when I tried to turn Windows Defender on.

Seems the problem just got bigger.

After much searching on Microsoft Support I found this is a problem people have been having with Windows 8 for a long time. Thread in the Community dated 10/29/12. Same are having the exact problems I am having and others having problem with firewall and windows defender both. Most all started having problems after uninstalling other Anti Virus Software and tried to return to Windows Defender.
None of the suggestions there worked for me either.

No fix by Microsoft that I can find. Not encouraging. Hope there is someone here that knows Windows 8 and can help.
