Advent 7094

Hi,
My Friends girl friend gave me a laptop to fix she said she need xp reinstalling (no problem i thought)
She said she had no recovery disks which doesn't help matter so i used my own xp home sp0 disk
for some reason the dvd drive wouldn't read cd's so i put the disk on a memory stick as drive letter u:

every time it loads it get to "starting windows" then bluescreen

*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XFA2FF63C, 0XC0000034,0X000000.00000000)

I have removed the hard disk and im still getting the same error.
I don't know what else i can try (apart from installing xp in my other laptop (which has the same chipset then insert it back into the laptop next to me)
