    Hi,

My PSU has just died during an installation of some software and I was wondering what wattage I should go for this time. The old PSU was a 350W, and although its been fine for the past 2 years, I was thinking I might benefit from a greater wattage. My system is as follows...

    GE Pro-M Motherboard
80GB HDD (soon to be upgraded)
    1024MB Memory
    2.4Ghz CPU
    128MB Video Card
    2 x DVD Writers
    Floppy Disc Drive

I'm asking this because I'm not sure whether motherboards need a specific compatible wattage, or whether there is some flexibility.

A speedy reply would be appreciated, as I don't want my PC to be unusable for very long!

Thanks, just out of interest, why a 400W and not, say, 500W?

In addition to my original question, what brand shall I go with? This is the first time I've had to replace a PSU, but from what I've read, I should stick with the 'big names'. Unfortunately, I don't know what these are (Enermax?) and I don't have money to throw away, so if anyone has any advice on an affordable, stable and respected PSU, 400W-500W, I'd be grateful.
