My daughter as a Toshiba Lap top see switchd it on today the screen went black with a message saying cant find operating system. The store where she bought it has now gone bust so my question is where can I get a copy of windows vista, and where can I download the drivers or is this not the problem.

    Thanks

Has the laptop been dropped or jarred or shaken too hard?
Sounds like a loose or disconnected cable.

Or the HD could be going bad. You could try taking out the battery and letting it completely cool down for 6 hours or so and then try and start it. Sometimes a HD that is going bad will start up again after cooling down completely.

    Hi

If this Laptop is one with a floppy drive, make sure no floppy is in the drive, also equally make sure no CD/DVD is in the CD/DVD Drive as many times PCs are set to boot to Floppy or CDROM and can cause this, also following on from Sach2's advise at boot enter your BIOS (at boot the initial text on screen should tell you what key/s to press, could be DEL, F2, ESC etc some other key presses here) and once int he BIOS check for 1st boot device and make it the HDD, click F10 to Save and Exit the BIOS and it should boot ok.
