    Hello All,
Thanks to the generosity of this community I was able to remove the braviax scum which infested my computer as I went to a site in the UK to learn how to disassemble a Nokia 6133. I followed the standard windows xp cleaning procedure on this site.

Like an over-exuberant youngster (a status I no longer occupy, by a long shot)I decided to "fix my registry" with Ccleaner. After that my IRDA connection would not support Nokia PC suite. (I do not know if it supported it just after the braviax removal, I toggled system restore before I checked the IrDa functionality.) Clicking on the wireless link control panel causes nothing to happen, though the phone is now recognized as a "Classic Phone" and an IR modem connection opens. When I have the irda/usb dongle installed I no longer get the tone to announce it, and the invitation to transper files (which I used to get even with PC suite off), I just get a notice tha the "classic phone" is recognized and an ir modem installs from the system.

I am running XP sp3 on that fairly old desktop computer, and have the original restore discs, and SP2 restore discs for the other dell nearby (a laptop). I see no other defects on the desktop, and have access to the IRDA applications I need via the laptop. Still I would appreciate help. Thanks for assistance previously rendered and for reading this.

Along with removing and reinstalling your IRDA drivers/software.

thanks for the initial replies, I uninstalled and reinstalled the usb-irda dongle and PC suite before I posted here, Is there a way to uninstall the drivers other than uninstalling the device with device manager?

Before you install any irda hardware the "wireless link" control panel is not visible, or perhaps not even part of the system, it might load up from the i 386 files on demand. It is a listed control panel now, but clicking on it yeilds no result but a quick hourglass which dissapears

I merged the old file that CC cleaner stored before I posted. I am no major geek but I try to keep up.

still no IRDA I am trying sfc/scannow on with a merged sp3/sp2 install list via nlite.

    The struggle continues

Well it turned out my system was in some trouble. Other apps were problematic. I went back to the system restore point set up by system restore after the toggle (after cleaning) and life has been fine except for the lack of IRDA. I now figure to un-install the IR com port (used to use the IR to the phone to the internet) and the IrDa device and nokia pc suite and to delete the relevant control panel from the system 32 file.

From what I have been reading about sfc /scannow it does not seem to repair this control panel, but if if the contol panel is missing then windows might load it up fron the cab? (cache?) when it needs to install an irda device as it did the first time.

Again thanks for the help to all, and if lightning strikes you with another good idea, keep them coming. I really enjoyed the struggle to get a great sp3 install disk with Nlite, the sp1 install and the sp3 download. Took me three tries to get it fairly nice.
