I followed the "run me first" instructions and while it seems to have sped up my computer my disk drive is now inoperable. Windows recognizes it but give me an error code "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

This drive was operable before I did this and I do not know which step caused the problem because I completed them in succession to one another and did not think to stop and check the status of all my hardware.

Which step is most likely to have caused the problem and how do I fix it?

I am running Windows XP on a HP Pavillion dv8210us and the DVD-r drive is a Pioneer dvr k16 (at least that's how windows recognizes it now). I cannot find a driver for this hardware that fixes the problem and I have already followed the Windows troubleshooting procedures (unistall, reinstall).

    Please HELP!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Actually none of the scans would be suspected of causing a problem like this. While it is possible that a driver could have been infected and maybe it was deleted, I just cannot tell without seeing logs which you should be posting if Windows still boots.

I suggest that you look at this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771230.aspx
