    Howdy folks,

Long time no see. I hope you are all well.

We are having a problem with only one of our machines in regards to its connection to router since installing SP2.

On XP home machine (Dell dimension 4300 P4 1.6Ghz, 256 ram) we are having some problems. Restart after install hung on blue screen (not electric blue screen of death, but login blue color), then held down power button to shut down, started again, logged in okay, restarted and it hung on "Saving your settings" held down power button again to shut down.

The real problem is no network connection via NIC (I am working on a modem now and realizing how I take my LAN connection for granted) LAN says "limited or no connectivity". Card is CNet PRO200WL PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. I downloaded new diver and ran diagnostic and it says "<< can't find fast ethernet controller>>".

We tried right clicking LAN icon near clock and selected repair. "Renewing your IP address" failed. Tried similar repair from command prompt, "ipconfig/release" then "ipconfig/renew" it repesponded "unable to contact your DHCP server. Request timed out". All DHCP setting are set as they should be.

A call to Roadrunner determined computer not talking to router.

Basicly, I don't know what to do. Any suggestions.

    Thanks

you've disabled Windows Firewall? checked that DHCP and DNS services are running and there no error in the event log?

    Thanks, KODO.

Before I could do or check anything my wife "restored" to an earlier point. Now the computer really runs poorly.

My thought now is, reformat, fresh install. Wait for SP2 CD and reformat then?

    Thanks again.

if you're going to format, then I encourage you to try out nLite. It will help make you a winxp cd with SP2 on it so when you install XP it will automatically update to SP2 during the installation.

    nLite .98
