Ah no, iTunes library mistake

So I was fiddling around with my libraries (very messy as very little of it was imported through iTunes) and decided it would be a good idea to stick everything all together in one new folder and then change my iTunes music folder location. Well, I guess I should really have checked out the best way to do this beforehand.
I'm missing about 300 songs (I don't think they've been deleted, I just forgot to add the folder and now have forgotten where they are, but searches haven't thrown anything up), and I've lost all the editing I did on file name and information (so I've got loads of irriatating badly named files at the bottom of my library), but most importantly I've lost all my beloved playlists. I loved those playlists like they were my children.
They can't be completely gone, can they???
Please tell me I'm being a complete dumb*** and they're in an obvious place.

Ok, so I restored iTunes Music Folder to its rightful place and as default location - the beloved playlists came back to life - and so I then moved all my audio files into it - and now the playlists are there but obviously trashed. After re-importing it came up with 6000 more files than should have been there. So I got rid of all the (!) and whatever else came up in duplicates, but it's still got 2000 extra files.
There's the correct number of files in the Music Folder, just not in my library.

Might just give up and see if there's a restore point.
