i have a major problem... the computer was freezing when i attempted to open photos... then i began to get official microsoft looking pop ups telling me i had a registry error and to download this reg thingy from their site...i then researched and it seemed that there was a few trojans (malware?) that behaved that way... i followed a host of advise and directions on how to remove them... however even after all that work...trust me...hours....it is still misbehaving ...freezing, changing settings, refusing to open Outlook Express, stopping programs...
There was some sort of error during check that stopped Spybot... i don't know how or if any of these things are related, but it is still acting every bit as if i have a trogan or something...
now it is trying to self install SPAMfighter with each start up....
i did have the program installed a week or 2 ago and tried to delete it...it shows up as being in the list of programs (in control panel/add or remove) but with no button to remove it.... i probably erred in deleting it by tossing it in the garbage... i also removed the registry keys for it....
...i have tried to research SPAMfighter because of all this and i keep coming across posts saying that SPAMfighter will not uninstall and that there were similar problems to mine occuring suspiciously around the time SPAMfighter install...
maybe it is just me...and believe me when i say i am computer daft...but doesn't it seem that SPAMfighter in itself might be the problem? Has no one else noticed this or am i just chasing rabbits?
i have ran every tool suggested ... AVG, Lavasoft, my own antivirus Freedom, Highjack this, Smitfraud, Spyhunter, Spybot.....nothing shows as spyware or malware or any other ware...
could SPAMfighter actually be a trojan, or could a trojan be attatched to it, or is there anything else it could be?
i would be grateful for any help or comments ... i hope that this all makes some semblance of sense....
    thanks...

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
