I have the freepod.com virus from AIM, my little bro gave it to me accidently... can anyone tell me anything about how to get rid of it? the program itself is called mc-110-12-00000080.exe or something like that.

    thanks!

You can look at what was done in this thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74495

Otherwise as stated in the above thread, Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Ok, sorry I didnt' mean to skip a step in posting.
I didn't save the results of my initial scan which took care of malware I wasn't even aware of, however not the AIM virus. I will do the steps again and report what happened.

the online scan RAVAntiVirus found nothing:
    Found
    ============================
    Viruses found: 0
    Suspicious files: 0
    Disinfected files: 0
    Mail files: 60

Trend Micro's free online scan froze at 95% updating.

    Bitescan:
    Virus Detected

    Dropped:Trojan.Purityad.E 2

    BehavesLike:Trojan.LowZones 2

ccleaner, ad-aware, and spybot removed a few other trojans and small malware but i had to shut down the comp before i could save the reports.

    is this info helpful?

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes. (Notice that the same process appeared to be running twice. Kill all of them.)
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINDIR32.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINDIR32.EXE

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.globalefinder.com/sp2.php
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.globalefinder.com/sp2.php
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.globalefinder.com/sp2.php
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.globalefinder.com/sp2.php
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services Configuration] windir32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services Configuration] windir32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services Configuration] windir32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [services32] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-110-12-0000080.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DNS] C:\Program Files\Common Files\mc-110-12-0000080.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINDIR32.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-110-12-0000080.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Ok I did everything on the last post.

The only thing that wasn't.. there was the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\mc-110-12-0000080.exe you told me to delete while in safe mode. The file wasn't there. Good thing??

    My new log is attached.

Yes! HJT may have been able to removed while fixing the line.

Looks clean now! How is it working?

    If you do not use:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

I would uninstall it using Add/Remove programs.

hmm, an error occured when i tried to uninstall. it said it may have already been uninstalled but there is an icon in "my computer."

other than that, the virus seems to be gone and my computer is up and running normally again!

thanks a ton, majorgeeks is the only place i'll come for computer problems.

    You're welcome.

Do you still see the below in your HJT log.

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIEWPOINT\VIEWPOINT MANAGER\VIEWMGR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

If so, use HJT to kill the process on the first line, and then use HJT to fix the second line (the O4 line). That way it will no longer load (at least until you install AOL or AIM again).
