alg.exe - trying to access my PC every 2 seconds???

Hello!

Since downloading and installing ZoneAlarm, I see the following message:

ACCESS,2006/01/19,18:18:20 -5:00 GMT,Application Layer Gateway Service was blocked from accepting a connection from the local zone (192.168.1.100ort XXXX).,N/A,N/A

Where 192.168.1.100 is the PC running ZoneAlarm and the Port number increments on each message that is being sent out.

I have hundreds of log entries like this - a new entry every two seconds.

I run a NAT'd network, however, there are no other devices running at this time on the network - other than the Linksys router and my PC running ZoneAlarm.

I have read other posts that say I have nothing to worry about as alg.exe is a trusted MS program. Other posts have said that maleware sometimes is disguised as alg.exe.

My issue is - why is this process trying to make a connection with my PC and where is it coming from?

Should I allow this only for the trusted network or both, the trusted network and the Internet?

I am still a bit confused as to where the request is coming from to access the Application Layer Gateway?

If I have no other PC's running on the network (i.e. they are all turned off, other than the one I am on) then where is the request originating from?

Last question...

Since I use my Linksys as my default gateway and have ZoneAlarm running on all PC's, I didn't think I used ICS/ICF.

I do share a printer connected to my desktop with 2 other PC's connected via wireless.

With that said, I do use ICS/ICF - even though I don't share an Internet connection or XP Firewall - correct?
