Waiting a month for my machine... I filled out their survey a week ago complaining about lack of response regarding the slow build time and that abspc never took this long. No response. I can only assume the FX-55 chip was in short supply, but aside from automated responses, I never heard a word from them.

Finally shipped Tuesday the 22nd. How? Ground. Probably will not arrive until Monday since FedEx says the 26th, a Saturday. Should have upgraded me to overnight for the price and delay. Hope they enjoy my money because its the last dollar they will get from em and I certainly will not be recommending them to anyone starting with you guys. People expect certain quality and service from a boutique shop and Alienware just does not deliver.

Have purchased 2 from http://www.abspc.com and suggested them to a couple friends totalling 3 more machines. Every order was flawlessly completed and only one problem, a bad floppy drive which was handled quickily. Thats how you treat people.

Alienware, hope one of you read this because you suck. Hard.

Are they really worth the money anyway?

Debateable. All of their hardware is top notch. Then again, so are 100 other companies.

Aurora FX-55. Slightly stripped down, I have an extra HD and 6800Ultra OC video card I am transferring, I mainly wanted the board, chip, ram, case and dual layer DVD drive. Thought I would give em a shot since I can write it off.

Wow. FedEx is usually pretty reliable. At this point, they can lose it for another week, Alienware already dropped the ball.

I just got a new laptop from Xtremenotebooks.com. By the time I got the check to them (they had moved in the process and didn't get it the first time) it had taken a month so they went ahead and upgraded then laptop to the next higher grade system (The cost had dropped in the process as well) and they shipped it to me 2nd day air. it was pretty cool they helped out a lot and wanted to do whatever they could because of the mess up. Its a nice system, I kinda like the AMD 64 part of it. :) I thought about getting an Alien but the price was just a little more than I wanted to spend.

I am waiting on my newest toy as well ;). I ordered last month a Mac Mini 1.42GHz with 512MB Ram, 80GB HDD, DVD burner, Bluetooth/WLAN, and Wireless Keyboard/Mouse from Apple's online store. The current shipping date is on or before 02/28/05, but it may delay again.

Well, this IS an interesting post.
I am not a gamer, nor a user of "top shelf" hardware, but, I have always been under (the obviously mistaken) impression that Alienware was on the same par, as say IBM, or something, you know, nothing but class?

Gee, this is an eye-opener here!

I would not have expected this.

    An update

My Mac mini is finally shipping :)

The reason for the previous delay is just unbelievable. Apple didn't ship my order because I ordered the machine along with the Apple DVI to Video Adapter, which is currently not in stock. Yes, you read right. My Mac was already build and ready to ship for days (or weeks?), but Apple hold back my order because of a missing TV adapter cable which is not even part of the Mac mini package.

I finally convince them to ship all my items separately instead of waiting another 3-4 weeks for the TV adapter

My friend was thinking about getting an alienware laptop, having never ordered from them before I told him about your experience in processing the order, he's thinking again ;) There arn't that many gaming laptop brands around these days, particularly not in the UK.

Have him look at abspc, I have had nothing but good luck. There are other boutique builders. Let me know how that Mac works out Phillip :) Just remember, even though you have a Mac now, that does not mean you have to look down on us ;)

I was on the verge of purchasing a computer from Alienware..I previously owned a Systemax computer for the last 5 years..absolutly no problems with the system in 5 years..after doing some more searching I decided against the Alienware for pricing reason..I ended up purchasing a Gateway from Best Buy..went down and picked it up and had it up and running the same day..it was a 540 including a 17" LCD Monitor, Lexmark inkjet printer 3.2 Ghz, serial ATA 200G HDD and 1.0gb of ram for well under the price of Alienware..a couple of things I didn't like with Gateway was no Toll free support # and the first thing I had to do was burn system recovery disk..I thought they should have been included..first thing I installed was ZoneAlarms Free firewall, followed by AVG free antivirus, spyblaster(free), Ad-Aware (Free), CCleaner (Free), RegScrubXP (Free) and paid for one of my favorite software programs called GoBack 4.0..after reading your post about Alienware I feel I just might have made the right decision..While I think if I would have purchase the Alienware I would had been totally happy with the system itself, I don't ever want to deal with a company that won't communucate with their customers..so far I have had my new computer for a month now and love it.....great forum with alot of good information...thanks to the information and avaliable software, this site has made it a pleasurable experience to own a computer

Glad to have saved at least one person a lot of money. The machine is here and it is fast, but my only problem was no notification that it was to be delayed or any resonse to my survey I filled out complaining about the time frame. The page said ordering the FX-55 *MAY* delay the order, but I was not contacted that it was. Last I checked, may does not mean will be. I have also heard others waiting a long time for builds.

    Another update

The good news: I received a package from Apple today

The bad news: It was not the expected Mac Mini, but the Apple DVI to Video adapter which Apple shipped on Monday

So where is my Mac Mini and Wireless Keyboard/Mouse set? According to Apple's shipment status page nowhere. I even emailed Apple's customer service today but no reply so far. I finally located my Mac Mini with this tracker. The package with the Mac is at Apple Czech Republic (entry point for Mac Mini EU shipments) since last week, but delayed due to “EDI-issue with supplier”. I have still no idea where the keyboard and mouse is. I will call Apple tomorrow.

Apple's Online Store is just a disappointment. I am waiting now 6 weeks for this machine and there is still no end in sight

Wow! Sure am glad I built my computer. I've found www.zipzoomfly.com to be extremely reliable, and with cheap prices and shipping. Aside from that, I just go down to the local Microcenter. The only problem I've had ordering stuff is from www.tigerdirect.com . I got a defective motherboard from them once and fried 2 processors with it.
