Alloy spinners

Car people -

You know you can get spinners to put on alloys?
I'm curious as to why they're illegal in the UK....

 

Aside from the fact that spinners are kinda over-the-top...an arrogant thing....I think they may be illegal for safety reasons...they continue to spin after a vehicle is stopped...posing a threat to curious children and small critters.

 

Because they are spoil sports in the UK. I notice they don't seem to mind people having a whole heap of neon tube lights under their cars tho.

I like the spinners.....I think they look cool. Many a green traffic light has been ignored as I've watched the spinners on the rig next to me still going round after the vehicle has stopped As my hubby tells me...."It ain't gonna get any greener babe!"

 

one thing i would like to know. why would someone spend more money on there rims thin they did on there whole car? i dont see why people would waste there money doing that

 

I agree whole-heartedly...just like the young `uns that put a three thousand dollar stereo in a car all rusted to hell with bad tires.

 

I saw those spinning things 2 years ago, hoping they were just a fad. Unfortunately, I've seen a few others. I think they are one of the stupidest ideas ever created IMHO.

 

Come on guys...lighten up! Where's your sense of fun ????

Actually I was thinking of having my new PC with one of those transparent cases and attaching some mini spinners to my cooling fans. That would be so much fun to watch when I'm waiting for a download to complete

 

i agree with you too about them systems too you know the other day i was in town and came across a young guy that had 2k rims on his 80's GMC jimmy and he had pne of them little 30mile tires on the rear and i asked him why he has not gotten it fixed yet Him: because i dont have the money to have it fixed meh so you spent all your money on your rims now you have no money to fix a flat you just got. Him:yep me:was the rims worth having no money to fix anything that might break on your car? (i guess he had to learn the hard way lol) him:i guess not

for me i dont care what my car may look like aslong as it gets good gas milage i am ok with it
oh yea and if it has A/C lol

Oh good lord, spinners? I've seen those things cruising around Reading many a time, and I can't help but laugh. They are so stupid. Illegal: same reason that exposed circular saws and abrasive discs are illegal, unless operated with correct training.

Modding cars : not bad, unless you have no taste

 

Art is in the eye of the beholder…….not all, but most geeks have done some kind of mod, on their computer, make it faster, make it pretty, or turn it into an art object……..

…..people do the same with cars, inside and out, things you see, and things you don’t………

I, too, was hoping they were a fad, but apparently they're here to stay. How unfortunate.

 

I don't actually see the point in them, was just talking to some bullsh1tter earlier who's my age and reckons he can get insured on a 4litre Range Rover, top of the range etc.........I think not. I saw a guy with some neons the other day and they changed colour which I thought was just over the top.

 

i don't like spinners... i think they look pretty trashy... besides who wants to bring that much attention to their car anyway... just gonna encourage someone to steal it...

i plan on buying new wheels for my Explorer when the money situation permits... factory wheels were 17" and i plan on upgrading to 20" wheels...

There's only so much you can do to a Kia Sportage, and none of the suggestions above fit with my sense of modification to this kinda rig. I put gas in..what more does it need?

Manul cars are best, and fiat stilos are great for modding

Oh come on, manuals are OBVIOUSLY the best.

Its a little like Windows and Linux... both drive the computer, but one requires a bit more attention than the other

 

I also love manuals, but unfortunately my Grandprix GTP does not have that package, as in it was never available. But, back in the late 80's early 90's, I believe there were manual packages. Anyway, I've done research on "upgrading" an automatic transmission to a manual transmission. It is possible, but quite expensive.

I'm just going to have to break down and buy a shift kit.

 

Having driven manuals for most of my life up until the last 8 years I prefer automatics. You always have the override if you get the urge to go manual, and let's face it....you sure need a manual on that M5/M1/M25 nowadays. I have a manual again now...swore I wouldn't...but actually the traffic over here is far better than the SW of England.

 

the only thing that pissed me off about my manual Civic was sitting in gridlock on the highway after a few hours of driving... all the foot action for going such a short distance started to cramp my feet...

 

If you live where the weather can be iffy....meaning snow and ice...and you like better gas mileage...a manual is the way to go. Oh yeah....if you have a significant other(my ex) that can`t drive one it`s a bonus too.

 

That's not even worth me saying anything!!!

 

And the blue ones ARE illegal
