MS Excel or other spreadsheet programs will do that - check out Open office if you don't have Excel.

Now, having said that - I can't remember how exactly to do that . . . but as I recall it wasn't a difficult process.

MS word will also alphabetize lists - just highlight the list - then under the TABLE menu, click on SORT and select Ascending

Here's how to alphabetize a list in MS Word 2007, either inside a table or not in a table:

Inside a Table: Highlight the table or column you want sorted. In the Ribbon, under Table Tools, go to Layout. Then, in the Data section, click on the AZ (Sort) icon, and the Sort screen opens. In the left column select the column you want sorted, + in the right column chose, Type (text, numbers or dates) and Using (paragraph). Then select Ascending or Descending. There are additional options for more levels of sorting.

If NOT in a Table: Highlight the list. In the Ribbon go to Home, + in the Paragraph section, click on the AZ (Sort) icon. This opens the Sort Text screen. (Before opening the Sort Text screen, highlight the section you want sorted --- otherwise when you open this screen, the system automatically highlights ALL the text on the page.) In the left column select the field you want sorted (e.g. paragraph) + in the right column chose, text, numbers or dates. Then select Ascending or Descending. There are a number of additional options for more levels of sorting.

pc rookie lady, welcome. Of course you can get help here.
First what version of windows are you running on your computer?
Second, do you have anything like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Works, Word Perfect Suite or Open Office in your program list?

I will give directions once I know what software you have available.

If you do not have any of those things listed, don't worry, there are free programs that you can download that will allow you to alphabetize a list. I assume you wish to alphabetize by surname.
