Hi, first time poster. I usually just check out the freewares here but I now come calling for your advice/expertise.

I usually try to be a lot smarter about these things but I got called out the other day.

I downloaded hotelmogul from some site. came as a .rar file. Opened it and scanned it with Avast Free. Came back clean. It was a single executable file. When I executed it it opened an installer, I installed it :hammer

I have an alq autostarting. Sometimes it sits in the processes. Sometimes it appears in common files (alq written with white box/blue border icon).

Start>run>programmes I can see hotelmogul game and something called setup factory 8.0 runtime.

I can add/remove alq through Revoo uninstaller but it then tries to uninstall my Santa Cruz sound card driver.

I don't know what has gone on. I'd just like to uninstall the software.

    Would love some help, Thanks
    Kid

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

We need the requested logs from SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes. Also we need you to put your PC into normal startup mode using MSconfig as requested in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME. Then reboot. Then DO NOT kill or disable any processes even if you think they are malware. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new MGlogs.zip file and the logs from SAS & MBAM whether they found anything or not as requested.

By the way, what is the below that you have trapped in MSconfig
    Not considered malware.

What are all of the below? Are they all related to this game being installed?
    Code:
    2009-10-25 16:28 -------- d-----w- c:\program files\Common Files\Wise Installation Wizard
    2009-10-25 13:43 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\Home\Application Data\CasualForge
    2009-10-25 13:43 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\CasualForge
    2009-10-25 13:42 -------- d-----w- c:\windows\Your Product
    2009-10-25 13:42 -------- d-----w- c:\program files\Hotel Mogul
    2009-10-25 13:05 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\FarmFrenzyPizzaParty
    2009-10-15 14:17 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\Home\Local Settings\Application Data\cYo
    2009-10-15 14:17 -------- d-----w- c:\documents and settings\Home\Application Data\cYo
    2009-10-15 14:17 -------- d-----w- c:\program files\ComicRack
    2009-09-30 17:26 4792764 ----a-w- C:\British TV.exe
    What's an "alq"?

Sometimes it sits in the processes. Sometimes it appears in common files (alq written with white box/blue border icon).

Also not malware. It is a tool used in building installation packages.

    Hi and Thanks, Chaslang.

I did run both Malwarebytes and Superanti but nothing came up. It said the system was clean.

F.lux is a prgramme I run to 'warm' my monitor brightness to make it easier to use at night.

I do not know what 'casualforge' is or what it does.

Both 'your product' and 'hotel mogul' were installed when I ran the hotelmogul .exe and so are related to the factory runtime 8.

Farm Frenzy was a game similar to hotel mogul (same programmers). Surpised it's there.

ComicRack is like a .pdf viewer but specifically for comic books.

British TV lets me watch TV.

Maybe all this nonsense is just due to someone making a shoddy installer and not understanding how to run factory runtime 8 properly.

It was the alq.exe that concerned me most.

    thanks

As stated in the READ & RUN ME and my last message, we still want to see the logs. It is how we verify that people are using the correct updated versions of the programs.

The times of creation are extremely close to Hotel Mogul and 'your product' so they are probably related.

Possibly but it is not malware.

There was no such file showing in your logs. Are you sure you were not looking at alg.exe which is part of Windows.

You do have some minor cleanup to do. I will include forceful removal of Hotel Mogul since I do have a fix to give you for other reasons anyway.

First let me remind you that you should not be using MSconfig to control startups like you are doing. See step 4 of the READ & RUN ME again.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {09E90109-A9AA-4980-BCEF-76F8D924E902} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {09E90109-A9AA-4980-BCEF-76F8D924E902} - (no file) (HKCU)
    O23 - Service: JA - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\Home\LOCALS~1\Temp\JA.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: PWNZMGJSEESNZWW - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\Home\LOCALS~1\Temp\PWNZMGJSEESNZWW.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
