Surely you only want to see the IDE drive in bios, not set it as boot drive?

You want to set the SATA to boot and install to it I don't think you need external software with this motherboard, just enable it in bios and point windows setup at it.

IDE is not set as the boot driver.

But in the selection, it just has general "hard disk" as boot.
Under Hard Disk Boot Priority it does have the SATA drive listed.

But there is no place to select the SATA to boot.

so when I install, it once again still cannot find a HD. So there is no "point" it to windows install.

    wow. isnt this confusing..

i'll try to put in my .. help .. ish

remove the ide drive.physically unplug the drive from power and ide connection

set it to "auto" or "master" with the pin selection

    put the sata drive in.

    put in windows cd, install.

if this isnt working... hmmm.. take the ide drive to another computer, format it completely. exchange the sata drive for the ide drive as master and completely unplug the sata drive. this should give you a clean install of windows xp home unless the hard drive has a corrupted boot sector. which is.. generally not good..

    Oh Fallen Angel.

Were it that easy I would've done that.

You see, if you read the rest of the thread, you'll see that it won't even recognize the SATA drive.

As much as I'd love to go through the regular questions, please just read the thread, it will answer your questions.

i did read it.. im not seein anything about formating it...

should i go to the bother of formating c:?

    i still dont know.
you can see if you can fix this relatively easily anyway...
buy a simple.. 4-6gb ide hard drive on eBay or whatever for like 20$..
hook it up ide and see if it works.
if it doesnt, the problem goes deeper than the harddrive...
if it does work though your 60gb ide drive will still be bad so you can friggin hit it with a hammer to decline your frustration... hitting things with a hammer really helps sometimes lol. once you're in windows you can download drivers to make it recognize your sata drive then just make the 4gb your boot drive and your 200gb storage/instalations...

by the looks of it the 60gb ide has a boot sector corruption..which is .. pretty bad = dead hard drive

    In BIOS

Go to ' Advanced Bios Features '........page3-8

    Choose boot sequence press enter
choose hard disk press enter...........page 3-9
up down arrows to choose which hard disk (sata) press enter

    then go to ' Integrated peripherals ' screen.............page 3-14

Disable the ide channel with the ide hard drive
enable the ide channel with th cd

    enable the SATA controller
    disable the SATA raid

physically disconnect the ide drive whilst installing windows to the sata

let us know how this works out

The IDE drivers had been disconnected already.

    I did disable the RAID.

Same results. windows cannot find a drive.
