    Hi All,
I want to disable System restore to tweak Windows. Should I have an alternative, such as GoBack, before doing this? My data is sufficently backed up & my only interest is in preserving the stabilty of my OS & PC performance. If anyone has a program or some tips to recommend, please post or email.

    Thanks Bunches!

    Kodo & Robo,.

Thanks for the advice...:) I will try the programs. See, I thought that Acronis was only for copying full partitions or hard drives. I've used Drive Image for that, but never Acronis. I'll try it though, AND Total Uninstall. (One of the reasons I need a back- up, or a restore point, is that I DO like to demo programs... I just don't need as many "points" as System Restore gives, since I only use it once every few months.)

    My heartfelt thanks again,

    Gina

    Gina,

Sys Restore WORKS and works extremely WELL, for what you're talking about, so an easy and solid solution for you would be to USE IT. You can set a new Restore Point before you tinker, then tinker or run demos to your heart's content, and if anywhat goes wrong, clean up the mess and go back to your RP.

The procedure I use and recommend that gets around the TOO MANY and TOO MUCH complaints is this: Once a week, when I do the regular maintenance and housekeeping chores ...

(assuming that the computer is doing just fine, or I wouldn't be doing housekeeping -- I'd be repairing)

... at the beginning of the housekeeping routine, I shut off Sys Restore completely, then Reboot, and then set it back to my settings (monitoring my system drive, but turned off for the other three drives). The effect is exactly what I want:

Sys Restore protects me during the week, and accumulates a LOT of data, but once a week I take it down to zero, and it starts all over again. No problem with too much space taken up; no problem with too many RPs. Just the kind of solid protection I want for tinkering and experiments.

BUt DO give Acronis TrueImage a try for whole drive or whole disk backup images. It's absolutely great, very fast, and now has its own image verifier utility, so that you can KNOW the image will work if you need it.

    Thank you Wisewiz!:)

That actually makes SO much sense! I won't have to worry about working with another program for the small amount of backup & stability I need right now unless I actually WANT to back up a HD or a partition. (Actually, the next time I want to do that I WILL try Acronis. Drive Image was a disappointment.)

    Thanks for the info!

    Peace,
    Gina
