Alternatives for regedit? (w/ copy, paste, undo, view saved reg files,....)

I was cleaning my registry with regedit prior to upgrading some programs (new serials, etc. - wanted to avoid conflicts). I accidentally deleted a bunch of Acrobat 8.0 reg entries because I had been doing that on another machine (before upgrading to Acrobat 9), so anyway, there must be something better than regedit, no?

I want to open a backup reg file from system restore point, ccleaner, or some other program like that that and just past in the entries I deleted, rather than installing dealing with a potentially ugly removal/reinstall...

    Suggestions?

Before you work in the registry, it is always a good idea to create a backup on your desktop.

then you do have to go back a few days to a restore point.
If the computer behaves, then you can delete the registry backup from your desktop.

I autorun a program called ERUNT on the first boot up every day.

It saves the registry from the last 30 days. So if I remove something I shouldn't, I can restore the registry from the first boot up of the day.

ok. ERUNT installed; doesn't seem to slow down starts noticeably...

i also found a few nice freeware reg tools in the MG software archives (i guess i had missed them before). i'll try to update this once i've had a bit more time trying them. for now, based on initial impressions, a payware program called Registrar Registry Manager appears to be best for my needs. i also breifly tried regcool (not really freeware), and registry commander. the latter might be worth trying out for someone who can't get a hold of RRM. There are also couple of nice apps that add features to windows regedit.

However, no matter how much I kept cleaning the registry. i just could install Acronis True Image 11 over the badly uninstalled True Image 10. I even uninstalled my other Acronis programs and cleaned every acronis entry everywhere I could find, but in the end it was a Microsoft freeware program called Windows Install Clean Up, that got the job done. It revealed a something (leftover prog) without name or label (just a number similar to an IP) that had apparently been leftover by my Acronis TI 10 uninstall. Good stuff.
