Alureon.A Removal

Hello,

My dad's laptop has suffered from what we know now as a virus - Alureon.A

All of a sudden the computer would not boot and after running a rescue disk through the laptop it told me of this virus but offered no way to remove it.

Any ideas on how I can remove the virus. I have seen many suggestions but none for the situation where the computer does not boot up?

You may want to try Dr Web Live CD. Be prepared for a long scan time. Be sure to read the documentation.

Burn the iso file using a burning software like Nero or Imgburn.

You may have to change the boot order in your BIOS to boot from a CD.

Using the GUI may not detect the MBR rootkit. If it does, it may ask you to replace the MBR. Choose yes. You can also start the Dr Web in Safe Mode then select "Start Shell". At the prompt type:

$ /opt/drweb/drweb -path /win/C: -TB

The TB switch scans boot sectors and master boot records (MBR) of the hard drive.

Also, what operating system are you using and any service pack installed. Also, what manufacturer and model of the computer.
