Am I in the Right Forum?

I downloaded and installed a shareware version of Win-Spy that leaves an icon in my taskbar ( and hovering over it says it will not appear in retail version). However - there is no way to access it or uninstall it. Does this qualify as malware as I (ever so brightly) installed it myself? Thank-you for your help, BC.

 

Thank-you Tim. You mean they advertised a key-logger to purchase - and the 'trial version' is actually spying on me? I will follow your instructions but if this is what you mean - someone just used a c.c. to make a purchase on my pc - and I should let them know, right?

 

I just meant someone used their credit card to purchase something for me on my machine day b4 yesterday. I know I downloaded and installed this keylogger shareware version but since I could not get it to open or remove it I asked for help. When you said it was dangerous... I thought you might it was only 'masquerading' as a 'to buy' keylogger and was in fact... once installed, spyware keylogging on me... From the descript you posted - I guess I do not know the hotkey to open it - and I needn't worry about it stealing private info then, correct? ( Just how to get it off now...) (Thanks)

 

Sorry for double posting. Just not sure if I am in the right forum if I just need help uninstalling this thing.

The directions you pointed me to: There are many programs I do not know what they do or if I can safely remove them. Took the startup list in CCleaner (which shows more) and bolded the items I'm not sure I can remove. If you think it's necessary to do this cleanup at this time can you tell me what I can remove without harm?

( Or should I just skip to the malware removal steps...) Thanks!!

Hi, I ran the uninstall.exe file but the icon is still in my task bar. Rebooted after and that did not help either. ( The uninstallation seems to work and says it is complete when finished but the icon does not go away.) Any other suggestions? Thank-you, BC
