Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but here goes

A couple of days ago it started happening. It was as if my mouse was clicking thousands of times a second. Oh, I have a wireless keyboard and a wireless optical mouse. I tried turning off the mouse, still happened (the last thing I clicked on would constantly open and close). My keyboard works fine, but forget about my mouse.

I thought maybe it was my mouse. I unplugged the mouse and plugged in a wired mouse. Still happens. If it helps any both the wireless mouse and the wired mouse use USB. I used different USB ports to see if one port was bad and it didn't have any effect on the problem.

I then thought to either spyware or a virus. Scanned my comp with 2 different anti-spyware software (AVG Anti-Spyware and also Spysweeper). Removed all the istances of spyware and the problem still exists. I scanned my comp using Norton Anti-virus and no viruses were found. All 3 programs were up to date on their spyware/virus defintions. Both actively run the background too.

I removed the drivers for both my keyboard and both mouses I had. Did that via Device Manager so that no mouse or keyboard was showing there. Restarted and there were 2 listings for both keyboard and for mouse. For keyboard it said "HID Keyboard Device" and for mouse it said "HID Mouse Device". I removed both of those and restarted again and they came back.

I'm kinda stumped here. It's a real pain to use my keyboard only, so hopefully someone can shed some light onto my problem.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

It actually sounds more like a hardware or software issues than it does malware. If this is malware, it would be something totally new. The only real way we can determine if it is malware is for you to follow the below steps.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
