Am I still infected?

    You may have seen my post on the software forum about the text on some websites appearing bold in firefox and italic in IE. For some reason I ended up restarting and noticed the text saying "click once to log in" (or something like that) and the text that appears when you're shutting down had also become italicised as had the tab headings in my antivirus software.

    I have since solved the problem by restoring to the point where I ran a scan from Microsofts website yesterday but since I don't remember doing much after I ran that scan it's possible that whatever caused the problem (presumably malware) is still around so I have performed all the steps used in the "read and run me first" thread.

    I don't remember the specifics but not all the logs were clean. Also, whilst shutting down doing a necessary restart after running one of the scans (I think it was Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) I got a few messages about how some processes couldn't initialise (IIRC) because windows was shutting down; I'm not sure whether this is noraml or not which is why I am mentioning it.

    Also, after running the combofix scan I attempted to get back on Firefox and reactivate my anti-virus software but everything was frozen apart from my ability to bring up the task manager (which appeared as swiftly as usual) and when I finally deleted a process called drwtsn32.exe (which I have googled and found to be doctor watson) which was using almost 50% of my memory everything just unfroze and continued as it should have. I still have 2 of these processes but they're taking a mere 3036k each.

    Note: I don't know why the combofix log is called combofix2.txt. I accidently dragged a file over the combofix icon which caused it to open but I still think this one is the original log.

    Your SAS log was not the log. Look at it.
    Your log is here:
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    supera~1.log   7 Jul 2009         465  "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 07-07-2009 - 16-20-12.log"

    Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now let's use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    iMSPQMn
    mpcuzw
    dvpapi

    NetSvc:
    tjbbrpd

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Pk?
    c:\windows\system32\afogwoww.dll
    c:\windows\system32\01F.tmp
    c:\docume~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\iMSPQMn.sys

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\mpcuzw]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\tjbbrpd]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I also included the correct SuperAntiSpyware log this time.

    Things have been continuing to work fine. The fonts on the log in screen and on certain websites remain what they are supposed to be.

    Your logs are clean, but I made a mistake in removing a driver thinking that you had two av programs running. So let me fix that before I give you the final instructions.

    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DeQuarantine::
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe.vir

    Quit::

    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now attach the new combo log and make sure your Authentium AV program is working properly.

    I've done as you said but all I got at the end of the process was a blank notepad file called DeQuarantine.txt. I ran a search for a combofix log but all I found was the previous logs. I tried to attach it but the upload failed (as if it matters). I don't think I made an error as I made sure to shut down my antivirus software and windows defender as normal (and I don't have SAS running anyway).

    Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    So I can see if the drivers are replaced as well as the reg, keys.

    Did you try reinstalling the software?

    You didnt answer my other question....have you tried re-installing the Authentium AV program? It looks like you may need to do that.

    Reinstalling my AV software appears to have worked. It came out with a log called dequarantine.txt again but this time it wasn't blank.

    Good to know.....If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
