Got some kind of virus few days ago and tried to clean it. i ran super anti-spyware, avg 2011 and found two files infected with a trojan called hugipon. used avg 2011 to remove them but my computer was still experiencing problem. The problems are, after starting the computer my taskbar and windows explorer changes into gray color(the old fashion kind, the kind that uses least memory), random pop ups, cannot open any apps, and i get redirected every time i click on a link. After cleaning the hugipon trojan with avg 2011 the all apps being inaccessible issue was solved. Then i ran the malware removal guide and was pretty successful with that. Computer is pretty much back to normal but i still get the problem of being redirected to another website when i click on links. For example when i click on a link on the majorgeeks forum, i get redirected to another random webpage. i wonder if my computer is still infected? Also, not sure if it is any help, but right after my computer got infected, i always get the Generic Host Win32 encountered problem and needs to close error. i attached the anti-spyware log, malware bytes log, combofix log, rootrepeal logs, and mglogs. (no room to upload malware bytes anti malware log, also it did not detect anything, no malicious file found in any area). thank you for your help.

Run this, and then I will post back in the morning with a fix.

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Java(TM) 6 Update 20 <--- uninstall this outdated java.

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

You could have posted again to attach the MBAM log. You should do this when you reply, because even though it did not find anything I like to check whether it was up to date or not.

You need to put combofix directly on your desktop as specified in the instructions.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\chi\Application Data\193334A8D1A6415994998556736BDFE0.dat
    C:\Windows\~sisrslt
    FileLook::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\NTIMPEG2.dll
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\RunOnce]
    "combofix"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\RunOnceEx\000]
    "*combofix"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Could you please get this: NTIMPEG2.dll into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

Please go to start > Run and paste in the following:
    log retrievable @ C:\collect.zip

Run TDSSKiller again and if it finds anything choose to "cure" it if you see that option. Attach the log for me.

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Don't forget to attach the MBAM log and the new SAS log.

Tell me how things are running now.

followed your instruction and ran the new sas. then i ran the combofix with sfscript but it just stops after completing stage 27 and freezes. i cant even shut down, i had to hold the power button to turn the system off and had to do it several times. should i keep trying to run it?

not sure if this will help, i am using a acer laptop and everytime during startup a process called alaunch.exe would appear. everytime this process appear my computer would just freeze. i deleted the alaunch.exe file, im not sure if its this process that is freezing my computer during startup or is it the combofix. im actually not experiencing any symptoms of being infected with a malware now, at least my browser no longer redirect me somewhere else, so should i continue with the instructions? however, im not confident that my computer is rid of infection.

i attached the new sas log and mbam log below.

alaunch.exe is a process which is bundled with Acer laptops and provides additional diagnostic functions for your laptop. It should not be deleted.

    Doubt it.

You failed to include logs that I requested to see.
    • C:\collect.zip
    • The log from running MBRCheck
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

So attach logs and we will see. :)

How are things running after having TDSSKiller fix what it found?

    • Download bootkit_remover.rar
    • Click the underlined DOWNLOAD text to download the file and save it to your Desktop.
    • You then need to extract the remover.exe file from the RAR using a program capable of extracing RAR compressed files. If you don't have an extraction program, you can use 7-Zip
    • After extracing remover.exe to your Desktop, double click the remover.exe file to run the program.
    • Attach or post inline here, the output from remover.exe
NOTE: The Command Prompt window text can be copied to the clip board by right clicking on the top bar of the window and using the Edit commands to Mark, Copy, and Paste.

Ok. Now answer the question I asked earlier:

    How is the computer running?

sorry about that, i totally missed it. My computer is running fine now and i don't see any symptoms of being infected with malware. However i still face the problem with the computer freezing right after start up, all programs fails to run including super anti spyware. It only happens occasionally, not all the time. Since i am using service pack 2 now maybe i should update to service pack 3?

I'm not sure if the problem i face during start up is caused by malware, or maybe it's software problem? Thanks for your help.

Hmm, and what exactly happens when these programs fail to start? Do you get any errors?

Run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

Right now i don't get any errors at start up but a week ago before running all the malware removal programs i constantly get a generic host win32 encountered a problem and needs to close error. i also notice another trait and that is whenever i turn on my wireless network button during start up, the computer will freeze afterward. What i mean by my computer freezing is, no programs can be started and i can't even end any processes with my task manager and can't even shut down, i have to force shut it down by pressing an holding the power button. i attached the log below thanks for your help.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Any remaining issues can be resolved in other sections of the forum.
