U might have noticed my multiple posts recently, lol

    1 question which mite spark a bit of a debate, 64 x2 am2 or Core 2 duo?

I was looking at the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz for around £170
there is a Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz Also for around £170.

Which is best, ive been told some of the AMD motherboards are 'buggy'? also what motherboard would u recommend for the Intel CPU budget around £70-80.

    Thanks

    Benny

go for the Core 2 Duo. you get the 'value for money' out of it. plus all Core 2 range perform better than anything AMD has to offer at the moment...

Lets be more objective instead of saying "Core 2 Duo all the way!"

Core 2 Duo is a better chip overall at the moment, mainly if you're talking about E6600 and above, which are the 4MB L2 Cache Conroe's.

If you're looking for a 'Here and NOW' system, thats what you'd want (or an E6400), However, in terms up upgradeability, AMD certainly has the edge.

Not only are Core2 Duo motherboards few in number, once you settle, you're only choice up upgrading is the current Core2 socket T lineup.

AM2 is cheaper, still amazing in peformance, there is a multitude of motherboards, AND best of all, AMD has announced that AM3 chips will fit in socket AM2 and run on most current motherboards, so you're safe in upgrading for a couple years, likely to include AMD QUAD core chips.

Something to keep in mind. :)
