    Shims=scam, IMO.

    I dont see how they can be scams. i did some research and found that they decreese the pressure the hsf puts on the procsser and they take heat away from the core. What is bad about that. Ok back to the hsf any suggestions?

    Looked into it years ago.

    They said the same then.

    I bet those little rubber feet on the wafer take off more pressure than a shim. I bet you have worse contact with a shim and therefore, more danger to your CPU.

    How many people who overclock do you know that use shims?

    Nobody I know.

    There has to be a reason for that, right?

    As for HSF, I used a Volcano 6cu+ on my 2400 when I had it, and it ran about 35-37c idle.

    Not too shabby, imo.

    Basically right on both points. I've been in the P.C. business since 1988, and generally I've found that, if anything, shims tend to reduce the transference of heat on modern CPU's.

    As for shims reducing the "crushed core" syndrome. If the H.F.S. is applied and removed carefully, this should not be an issue. As Adrenalyne said, that's what those rubber pads on top of the CPU package are for. I've never had a crushed core in my life - and I must have done hundreds of H.S.F.'s by now ("touch wood";) )

    Yep: basically shim = sham., lol. That's why I have a whole packet of them sitting in my closet doing nothing.

    I use a Volcano 11+ on my 2700 CPU and it keeps things cool, even in mid-summer, which it is over here now.
