I have a thermal take case with 7 fans, plus cpu fan that came with the AMD 64 bit chip. It was running at 60-65 c until I replaced the "thermal grease" with 5 grams (a generous helping) of "silver thermal compound". And got a pci mounted fan the draws in air and blows it out the back. The temps immediantly went down to 32-37 celcius.....Im still worried that is too hot..I know nothing about watercooling and with the now 9 fans inside the system (still pretty quite) Im almost maxed at how many fans i can have inside. The only thing i can think of it the front fans are slightly blocked from the hardrives that are installed. Is this still too hot or do these processors just run that way??? How worried should I be now?

    um... let's make a checklist:

A: you did remove the thermal pad, right?
B: your "generous" helping didn't smear it off the CPU, right?
C: your heatsink is completely secure, right?

if all three are true, then the temps aren't lying, and those are very very good temps. i wouldn't touch your computer further unless you think it's too loud. 32-37C is definitely not too hot.

Im interested what advice you get from the folks here as i have a amd(tm)xp 2700+.My average temp is 64c and only rises to 67 on a heavy heavy load.i was worried at first but have been told since that this is the norm for these cpu,s. ive had mine a year and never had any probs but the temperature and lifespan thing still worries me.
    regards macker

auldfeller if you had a faster spinning fan on that processor it'd cool it down alot.. My 3200+ runs at 45* full load when the ambient is 28*. Under no load it's at 38* so your processor is running pretty good right now. You shouldn't worry about it being hot until it reaches 65*. At 70* that's when damage starts to set in on the processor. But it can handle up to that temperature easily.
