I have a question about a AMD chip, I currently have a AMD Sempron and I hate it. Anyway, I see its hard to find AMD Athlon's now since everything is going to 64 bit.

My question is, the CPU below...is it any good and worth $125 ???

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

It is OK but you really should upgrade to something that can support an AMD 64 3200+ or better, I am building a machine with a socket 939 mobo, can't wait to actually get the thing built, it is gonna be awesome, too bad I am $700 away :( I hope santa is generous this year.

I would if it was my machine, but this is just a basic computer around the house, email, games and things like that. Mainly a "homework" computer and the Sempron and Office doesnt really fit, bogs down.

Real question you should ask yourself is - what are you using it for?

Internet, Office, E-mail and a few little games...mainly for anyone who comes over who wants to get on the internet.

    IMHO, the Barton is fine.

Of course, its irritating when you notice that an AMD64 2800+ is just a few dollars more.

TBH, the Sempron should be cutting it just fine, for what the computer is for.

Yeah I noticed that, if it was my computer I would up it all. I went ahead and ordered this one because it's hard to find now.

Is it because I only have 256MB RAM in this computer or am I not doing something right on the board?

The computer still kinda lags a little, its faster than it was but still seems slow. My P4 2.0 runs twice as fast, it shows the "mobile AMD Athlon XP 2800+" running at "2.08 GHz" at 333MHz FSB.

Is there something I'm not doing or is it the memory?

Windows XP? Windows runs like poop on anything under 512mb usually.

10-04, I just ordered a stick of 512MB PC2700 DDR to add to it, hopefully this will make it run like it should.
