I have AMD too . However I've heard/read that AMD can handle more tasks, keep lower temps and have better power consumption. I think AMD is best for low-end systems just to stay alive for a couple of years. The new Core 2 Duo are new and shiny and I don't think that AMD FX or even the Athlon 5000+ can beat them.
I'd wait to see if AMD has something "hidden" to answer in the monster category.

This kind of quesiton can't be easily answered, it depends on what your using it for, how much you're willing to pay, etc. If you purchase a $1,000 Intel processor it will obviously be better than a $300 AMD processor. At the time being, Intel, in my opinion, has a better processor. I am currently running the AMD 4200+ @2.8Ghz (Overclocked). It run's my games very well, but I am going to upgrade to two 8800GTX's soon, and I don't want my processor to hold back my gameplay so I am going to be purchasing an Intel Quad-Core processor, which as far as I know is much faster than any AMD avaliable.

All in all, you need to decide what your price range is, once you've established this, you can determine what will work best for you.

It might help in your decision.

Remember, no matter what you purchase,a smaller, faster, cheaper version will be released within a day, week, month, or two.:D ;) :cry Bazza

+best bang for your buck = intel. even the cheapest $300 core 2 duo outperforms AMD procs that cost much more. also, the core 2 quad is the best proc out there. AMD went a weird way with theirs, opting for a dual proc mobo using 2 dual core processors: FX-74

I've always liked Intel better: they seem more stable, they run cooler, and have a longer life span than AMD's (IMHO). But- I'm running an AMD 3200+, so ..... whatever .....

I always get a chuckle at the more stable comment when it comes to CPU choice.

Your hardware is infinitely more stable than windows, be it amd, or intel. Yet I don't see people with threads saying, "WIndows or Linux?"

Stability ahs nothing to do with AMD or Intel. They both make extremely stable hardware.

Issues arise with mobo chipsets. Choose a crappy one, and you will suffer.

I have AMD and will stick with them for at least as long as my mobo lasts. I'm looking forward to the FX-70 series, even more the quad/eight core even though that's a ways into the future.

I am currently running AMD. And at the time when I was building my computer, AMD was dominate in the Price/Performance sector. Then two weeks later, Intel released Core 2 Duo and blew AMD away. When AMD releases their next generation of processors, they will jump ahead of Intel until Intel comes out with their next round of processors. Both manufacturers swap the performance crown every few years. I don't stick to one brand or resort to fanboyism or anything like that. It's all about performance; what processor is going to best for you at the time.

AMD is actually a cooler running processor in general. For the most part, if you intend on overclocking an Intel, you will NEED liquid cooling. AMD's tend to run a tad cooler.

On the contrary, you can get a 50% overclock from a Core 2 Duo E6300 on stock air cooling.
