Hey guys, cool forum you have over here, can't believe its taken me this long to come across it!!!

Anyways for my first post I have a question that I used to know the answer to but stupidly forgot. I have a 2.3 year old computer which I am in the process of upgrading to give it that last push for the next 2 years as it's starting to run quite slowly. My current spec is

    AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    1Gb RAM
128gb Geforce 6600 AGP (crap I know but don't play too many games)
    250GB HD
    (running XP)

I have managed to lay my hands on an extra 1gb of RAM taking me up to 2gb and I am going to install another 500GB HD but my question is with regards to the processor.

I want to uprgrade this as far as possible but without changing the mobo but I don't know what mobo I have got other than it is manufactured by MSI or what type of processor is being used at the moment. My question is how do I find out everything so I can install the max speed processor that my mobo will take?

    Thanks guys

    7025VER

    K8N NEO 2

    hope this helps

hi, I've used the aida program and now I know my mobo is an AMD socket 939 K8N NEO 2 Platinum.

I've gone on the msi site to see what the mobo can support processor wise but i'm having difficulty locating that information.

I found this page on their site: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produ...upport_detail.php?UID=607&NAME=MS-7025&kind=1

but I can't really make sense of it.

Any processor listed with "OK" in the last column will work in your board. If it's "Under testing", you take your chances (although it applies to the Opteron CPUs, which are meant for high end servers). If it's not listed in the table, it probably doesn't work.

Well it says every processor out right now is virtually ok with this board but I don't see how that's right. I have a 2 year old board that will run a dual core processor even though these didn't exist when the board was created. I just find it hard to believe as every experience I've had in the past has taught me you can only upgrade your procssor a little bit without changing the mobo but this is telling me I can have one of the latest processors without doing so!

Googling "K8N NEO 2" turned up this link, along with several others that looked interesting. But maybe you've already seen it.

Googling "7025VER" provided links to several forum discussions concerning that motherboard. MG is good, but it's not the only game in town!

You will have to take that up with MSI. Those are processors that they tested and claim will work.
