Amd Single Rank Vs Dual Rank Ram Upgrade Questions.

MoboMSI B450M Pro-VDH MAX (4 ram slots total)

CPU Ryzen R5 3600

Ram HyperX Fury 2 x 8 GB ( ddr4 @ 3200 CL16)
HX432C16FB3AK2/16

PSU Silverstone 650 W 80+ Gold


Primary use Gaming.

I had heard that AMD systems can benefit significantly from ram speed, timings and ram "ranks".
I currently have 2 slots populated with this ram, as mentioned above.
I'm considering an upgrade to a total of 32GB (4x8GB)


This is where the question arises.
Do I buy another 2 x 8 of the same ram ( which is more expensive than some 2x8GB 3600mhz - idky $+)
or
Sell the 2 x 8GB what I have, then upgrade to 4 x 8 3600 for 32GB perhaps with +1? to the first CL.
So slower timings.

Moreover the path of this upgrade doesnt stop at RAM.
This is where infinity cache comes in right?
From the R5 3600 to R5800X has higher infinity cache clocks?

A Future consideration is I will be looking at some stage to upgrade to a 5800X, which is about the best this B450m motherboard can handle.

**Yet another option is, do i sell the current B450M mobo buy a B550?
Then use the current CPU R5 3600 and Ram 3200 on the B550 mobo
Eventually upgrade as the 5800X become cheaper.

The current board I have the B450m will support the 5800X
The question arises because if its better to get a newer mobo that supports higher ram speeds.
Then this has an impact on if its viable to buy more of the same ram.
or
Sell current mobo and ram as a package and replace with faster ram and new.er mobo 550

The PC is approximately 6 months old.
I got it at a bargain price and all the parts are new.
It was another persons build that couldnt find a GPU and bought a console - they wanted quick cash..
Currently has a GTX 1070 in it which will upgrade to a 3060 or similar once mining insanity ends or something better comes along.

Stuff it.
Wait it out for a couple of years 2024ish - its doing ok for now and also have a large amount of older titles to play.
