It's all a matter of opinion, and what you want the processor to do.

Generally, AMD processors are better for desktops, in my opinion. They seem to give better performace over their Intel equivalents. However, Intel is coming out with a Conroe processor that is apparently a lot faster and less expensive than the best AMD processor, so prices will drop quite a bit on AMD processors within the coming months.

As for laptops, I'd personally say that Intel makes a better laptop chip. But you should look at battery life and effeciency before choosing a laptop chip.

However, these are all just my opinions. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will argue against them.

And many things factor into the equation as well. For example, some Intel chips have Hyperthreading, which can result in a small boost in performance. RAM speeds and compatability are important, as well.

I would recommend looking at some benchmarks that relate to what you generally use the computer for(ex gaming, video editing, word processing, etc.) to see which processor provides the best value for your needs.
