I'm right in the middle of a build and the drivers disk that came with the mobo has an AMD64 driver. Is that a driver for a 64 bit version of Windows or is it for the mobo to support an AMD64 processor? I ask, because I'd rather ignore the mobo's CD altogether and use the platform and display drivers from the chipset makers. Thanks.

It's a driver for the processor not 64bit edition windows. Is this for a desktop or laptop? Just wondering no real reason.

I'm not positive, but I'm 90% sure that the driver is for only for cool&quiet / power saving modes.

sswilson is right it is for the cool and quiet technology.

Sorry it's so late getting back to you, for some reason my auto-notify didn't work. I'm glad I ran a search as I was going to ask the question again. Will omitting this driver have any negative impact on the system (other than cool&quiet)? This is a Biostar TForce 6100-939 which sports the Nvidia 410 chip set. OS is XP Home 32 bit. Thanks gang, again my apologies for the late response.

are you asking if getting rid of this driver will have any effect on your system?

if you are then yes it will big time. if you get rid of this driver, then your processor will never run at it's full speed. cool and quiet is kinda like the new vehicles. when you're pulling a trailer or something heavy your engine will run on all 8 cyl. if you are just driving down the highway your engine runs on only 4 cyl. Amd made cool and quiet for users who need to conserve power. when you're doing something demanding like playing a game, your cpu runs at it's full power. if your only typing a document in word, your processor only runs on half it's power to conserve power. Hope this is helpful. I wouldn't get rid of it if i were you or you'll see some serious overheating problems!

Padams, I didn't know that. Thanks for the lesson and by all means, I'll use it!
    Thanks again.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement.....

I've got C&Q disabled in bios and as such don't bother installing the C&Q drivers.

My understanding is that without the C&Q drivers the cpu will never throttle down and runs at 100% at all times.

I've certainly never seen any problems with benchmarks without the drivers running.

I'd agree with that statment, ran it with and without and the CPU didnt throttle down whit C&Q disabled/uninstalled, however you can have it installed and just adjust your power settings to Always On and it wont throttle down but wont take advantage of the non needed CPU cycles or lowered temps as the CPU will be running at ½, ¾ speeds when just surfing or the PC is idle, once a CPU intensive task is started the CPU reverts back to full clock speed.

    Blurb on C&Q
