An alternative to AVG please!

Hi y'all, As you will know AVG are going to pull their free virus software. Does anyone know of a really good alternative?

I just switched from AVG to AntiVir yesterday. So far I like it. It is also free and easy to use.

AVG is not going to pull their free software, it is now AVG 7.5, available on the MG download page.

 

What? I keep getting this AVG pop up saying they're ending the free virus update in January. What's going on then? I'll go to the site and find out. Thanks puppywonder ... I'll get back.

Little teeny tiny print down at the bottom left of the popup directs you to the free 7.5 avg site.

AVG updated from 7.1 iirc to 7.5. As of January they will no longer support 7.1

Well I looked on the site and it said nothing about stopping the service. Do you think it was a malicious pop up? Gee whiz! I am going to report it to the avg site. Thanks for putting me wise on this.

Antivir get's my vote for a freeware Antivirus.
Kaspersky Active Virus Shield isn't bad, but for the life of me I can't get them to send an email with the activation key anymore (first time worked, nada since then).
Avast! is ok, kinda slow on the updates and the interface takes some getting used to.
I've had poor luck w/ AVG compared to AntiVir. Like the user interface better tho'...

I'm stickin' with the new AVG. Hasn't let me down yet. Also, new version looks a lot better than the old one. I'll tell you what does suck though, Windows Defender. Worst program ever. I tried it for a week and then at the end of the week uninstalled it. When i ran spybot and adaware, I found 23 sources of spyware. Don't use it!
