Annoying Firefox Feature

When writing in my blog or elsewhere, Firefox will occasionally interrupt me with a toolbar at the bottom of the screen, with a message like "looking for similar word". This is really annoying. I have to stop what I'm doing, click the X on the toolbar to get rid of it, and then resume what I was doing.

It seems that certain characters cause this toolbar to become active; backslashes, brackets, word/word, etc.

I don't know what this 'feature' is called, so it's difficult to look up an answer as to how to kill it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

that happens to me from time to time.
if you go to TOOLS->OPTIONS ->ADVANCED -ACCESSIBILTY and uncheck the "begin finding when you begin typing" option, you'll be all set.

 

I just checked, and that option is already unchecked.

check it.. apply it.. then use it.. then uncheck it/apply it and see if it happens again.

What version of FF are you using ?

 

Here at work where the problem is, 1.0.4

 

1.06 is out.. any chance of updating?

 

I have 1.0.6 at home. To get it installed here at work, I have to grab one of the IT guys to do it for me, since I don't have administrator's rights. The problem is being able to catch one of them when they have a spare 5 minutes...not easy.
